We used Bing Maps to pinpoint the locations of our families origins.
We began our integrated Social Studies / English Language Arts / Technology unit by asking the students to connect to their own roots and create a family tree. It was very interesting for our students to learn that their grandparents were from all over the world. We then began our inquiry unit by asking these essential questions:
What would it be like to be an immigrant or a refugee coming to Canada in the 19th Century and in the 21st Century? (Then & Now) How can we help immigrants and refugees make this transition to Canada smoother?
